The much talked about Mani Ratnam directorial Ponniyin Selvan or PS-1 starring powerhouse performers like Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among others hit screens a while back. Released in multiple languages the film has been doing decently well at the domestic box office. On the other hand, in the overseas market of U.S.A PS-1 has been raking in the moolah.

In this box office report, we look at the box office collections of Ponniyin Selvan in the overseas market of North America while comparing the same to previous Tamil films that have hit screens. Collecting USD 5,657,276 [Rs. 46.62 cr.] PS-1 has managed to surpass the collections of the Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0, which had collected USD 5,509,317 [Rs. 45.40 cr.]. With this, the film has now emerged as the all-time highest-grossing Tamil film at the North America box office. If that was not enough, looking back at the record of accomplishment of Tamil releases in North America, PS-1 has emerged as the first non-Rajinikanth starrer, which has achieved this feat in the past 25 years.

Going forward, Ponniyin Selvan still runs in theatres, with audience continuing to patronize the film. Given this current trend and the fact that PS-1 faces little to no competition, trade predictions state that the business of the film will continue to see growth in the coming week.
