Tragic road accident in Thatta claims 9 lives
At least nine people lost their lives in a roadside accident in Thatta on Tuesday.
The mishap took place in the Thatta area of Chalia where a truck and a van collided head-on, leaving nine people on board the van dead, according to police. Eight people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The police have confirmed that the deceased, who were on their way to a picnic at the Kenjhar Lake, hailed from Karachi. The victims were residents of Qazafi Town in Karachi, as per the police officials.
The deceased include Abdul Wahab, Abdullah, Tasbihullah, Noorul Wahab and Adnan. The bodies were earlier transferred to the Civil Hospital Makli for post-mortem examinations.
Later, the bodies have been transported to Karachi, where six of them have been released to their respective grieving families, the Rescue sources said. However, the remaining three bodies have yet to be identified and have been transferred to the morgue for further examination.
Police authorities revealed that the truck driver managed to escape the scene following the accident.
According to a friend of the deceased individuals, Abdullah had traveled from Saudi Arabia to reunite with his family and celebrate Eidul Fitr. Speaking to Geo News outside the Edhi morque, he said all the deceased were friends.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed sorrow over the incident and called for a report on the matter from the Commissioner Hyderabad.
Furthermore, Governor Tessori has directed the relevant authorities to provide the injured with all necessary medical assistance.
