A former Concord High School teacher was sentenced to prison Tuesday for crimes involving a teenage boy.Joshua Harwood was taken to state prison after a brief sentencing hearing Tuesday morning. He didn’t speak during the hearing, but the judge noted that he took responsibility for his actions during a previous hearing.Last month, the former Concord High School teacher pleaded guilty to human trafficking and manufacturing child sexual images. “It is sad, because you know, by all accounts, the young people he was teaching really admired him,” said Merrimack County Deputy Attorney George Waldron. “He was considered a good teacher, and he just had this side to him that nobody knew about.”The crimes involving a teenage boy took place in March 2019, before Harwood was hired as a high school teacher. Before imposing the sentence, Judge John Kissinger told Harwood that he supports the plea deal that includes a minimum of three and a half years in state prison and a suspended sentence of seven and a half to 15 years.”These are serious events,” Kissinger said. “These are serious conduct, but you’ve taken responsibility, and I feel that this is an appropriate resolution. Good luck to you, sir.”The victim was not present for the plea or sentencing hearings, but the county attorney’s office said the victim supports the sentence and just wants to get on with his life.”He’s doing well,” Waldron said. “He’s doing well, and he just wanted to put this behind him, basically.”Harwood can get seven months off his sentence if he completes a sex offender course.
