Students from the University of New England donated $5,000 to the Portland-based non-profit Partners for World Health Monday. The organization collects medical supplies and equipment for individuals, communities, and healthcare facilities in need. They also send medical personnel on medical missions to developing countries. It is tradition for second-year students in UNE’s School of Pharmacy to celebrate the halfway mark toward earning their degrees by holding a spring gala to raise money for a charitable organization. “We’re pretty excited that UNE has been one of our partners for so many years in a variety of different ways with students and also financial support,” said Elizabeth McLellan of Partners for World Health. The gala had to be canceled in 2021 due to the pandemic, so students instead held a series of smaller fundraisers so they could support Partners for World Health. “We decided that it would still be very important for our class to make a contribution to Partners for World Health because we really believe in their mission,” said Michaela Myerson, president of UNE School of Pharmacy Class of 2022.
