A 16-year-old accused of first-degree murder and use of a weapon related to 18-year-old Travell Mountain’s death appeared in Douglas County Court Tuesday morning. Marion Harris will stand trial as an adult in district court.Omaha Police Department homicide detective Michael Oliver based his testimony on surveillance video captured from a City of Omaha pole camera perched near a pavilion at the north side of the Levi Carter Park. It showed Harris opened fire, as flashes emerged from the muzzle of a firearm.During a police interview July 7, Harris said he hoped he hadn’t shot Mountain, according to testimony.The detective said investigators found seven shell casings shot from the same gun. At least 10-to-15 people apart of two groups congregated some time at the park before 3 a.m. Detective Oliver says investigators found text threads that reveal Mountain messaged Harris five hours prior to the shooting—one message read, “outside.”Omaha Police Department investigators spoke to multiple witnesses present during the early Saturday morning incident. A witness told investigators a fight was sparked by a female altercation.Detective Oliver testified surveillance video showed Harris open fire in the direction of Mountain at a parking lot. An autopsy revealed Mountain was shot twice, once near his head.Mountain’s parents say the loss of their son is a nightmare.
