ISLAMABAD – Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser with senior government members will hold a meeting with parliamentary leaders of opposition parties to resolve matters regarding the text of motion about formation of electoral reforms committee.
The government side will hold a meeting before the session of the national assembly, so that the consensus could be developed by a parliamentary committee, background discussion with senior members from treasury revealed.
Parliamentary sources said that Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Minister for Special Education Shafqat Mehmood yesterday also held a meeting to discuss the matter related to parliamentary body on electoral reforms. They decided to sit with senior opposition members to develop consensus to move a unanimous motion in the house. The parliamentary opposition in the National Assembly proceedings [last week] had blocked the government’s move to put forward a motion regarding formation of electoral reforms body. The opposition had expressed concerns over the text/content of the motion.
The opposition, around a week ago, had agreed to listen to the government’s stance over electoral reforms. The parliamentary opposition parties in absence of religio-political faction [MMA] agreed to constitute a parliamentary body on electoral reforms.
