Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast hit the big screens on Wednesday, and through its five day extended weekend the movie has collected approximately Rs. 96 crore gross at the India box office. The movie took a record breaking opening of Rs. 34 crore on Wednesday, followed by Rs. 16.50 crore on Thursday, Rs. 15 crore each on Friday and Saturday and finally, Rs. 16 crore on Sunday.

The collections have come despite extremely negative talk in the audience as also critics and this is a reflection of Thalapathy Vijay’s raw stardom and hold among the audience. An analogy to the run of Beast can be with Race 3, which despite negative talk collected Rs 100 crore in its 3 day opening weekend, riding solely on the superstardom of Salman Khan. That was nett collection in just 3 days and over here, it’s a gross total of Rs. 95 crore in 5 day run, but yet it’s a massive achievement to attain these numbers from just one state.

A drop in collections is now inevitable and after posing a rock solid total in the extended weekend, the movie might fold up under Rs. 120 crore gross. It’s a perfect example of a scenario where the stardom has worked but the film has failed. With a positive talk, Beast would have zoomed by Rs. 150 crore in Tamil Nadu by the end of its run, but the Nelson film turned out to be a king sized disappointment, and the same will reflect in the trend from Monday.

The film might entail nominal losses too for the producers, Sun Pictures, especially in territories like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Karnataka. The business outside of Tamil Nadu was majorly impacted by this wave of KGF Chapter 2. Outside of Tamil Nadu, the movie collected nearly Rs. 43 crore in it’s opening weekend to take the all India total to Rs. 138 crore. This is despite a negative trend post the opening day.
