We are aware how the Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam 2 has set the Indian box office on fire. But the film, which is directed by Abhishek Pathak, is also earning accolades overseas. It has become Devgn’s fifth highest weekend grosser overseas as it has earned $ 2.32 million in its first three days.

The first position in the list is acquired by Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal with $ 3.41 million. This is followed by Rohit Shetty’s 2017 comedy caper Golmaal Again ($ 3.17 million) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi ($ 2.75 million), which released earlier this year.

But Devgn had an extended cameo in the Gangubai Kathiawadi. So, if we don’t include that film, Drishyam 2 reaches the fourth spot in the list. Furthermore, if we only consider Devgn’s solo hero movies, Drishyam 2 goes up to the second spot; just next to his cop actioner Singham Returns.

The last three films to find a place in Devgn’s top eight overseas first weekend collection include Raajneeti ($ 2.25 million), Bol Bachchan ($ 2.06 million) and Golmaal 3 ($ 3 million).

Another reason why Drishyam 2’s achievement is phenomenal is that the other films in the list are out-and-out entertainers while Drishyam 2 falls more in the league of serious thrillers.

Drishyam 2 is the official Hindi remake of Jeethu Joseph’s 2021 Malayalam movie of the same name, which starred Mohanlal in the lead.
