In efforts to advance peace, stability and inclusive development in Africa, The African Union Commission and the United Nations, through the Office of the Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Women, Peace and Security and UN Women, with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany are implementing a project on women’s leadership initiative for stability in Africa that launched the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) in June 2017.
AWLN is a women’s initiative that seeks to enhance the leadership of African women in the transformation of the continent, in line with Africa agenda 2063 and the Global Sustainable Development agenda 2030. AWLN serves as a continental platform to galvanise women’s leadership towards lasting Peace and Sustainable Development, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in all sectors and at all levels, building on, and working with, existing women networks. In addition, the network aims to increase women’s effective participation in decision-making through peer learning and mentoring, enhanced solidarity, advocacy and capacity-building, among other strategies.
As part of its communications plan and with the support of the UNOAU, UN Women and the AU, the African Women Leaders Network is developing a website. The website is being developed within the framework of the German-funded Project: “Women’s Leadership for Inclusive Development and Stability: Third Phase of the African Women Leaders Network Initiative.” The AWLN Website will exist as a repository, whichwill provide up-to-date information on the history, previous and ongoing work, and regional presence of AWLN. The target audience will be AWLN members, national chapters, African women, and other interested groups. In close collaboration with the AWLN Policy Analyst, UNOAU Communications Specialist, and Graphic Designer, the web content developer will help build the original content for the website in the early stages and provide the Policy Analyst with training and guidelines on how to maintain the web platform.
