ISLAMABAD – The national tally of active Covid cases has fallen to 50,690 for the first time in nearly two months on the back of nearly 3090 recoveries during the past 24 hours, according to the daily update issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
The country is witnessing a gradual decline in both the number of active cases, as well as the fresh cases during the past two weeks, indicating that the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic was receding. The national positivity ratio has also fallen down to 3.98 percent, according to the Sunday’s stats. For the first time in almost four months, Pakistan reported Covid-19 positivity rate below 4 percent on Sunday morning. Pakistan last reported Covid-19 positivity rate at 3.9 percent on June 3. The NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government’s anti-Covid strategy, said that among the active cases, 4,267 patients were in critical care.
The NCOC also reported a single-day tally of 1780 new cases over the last 24 hours. According to the latest statistics by the NCOC, as many as 44,712 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours across the country, of which 1,780 came back positive. With 42 more fatalities, the nationwide death from the infectious disease rose to 27,566. As of Sunday morning, the national caseload of the disease rose to 1,238,668, depicting a more than 90 percent recovery ratio. A day earlier, the number of active coronavirus cases in Pakistan had gone under 60,000. The active cases had fallen consistently for more than a week with new recoveries surpassing fresh cases reported daily.
