LAHORE – Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar Sunday said that Pakistan could not afford any confrontation and street protests in the present situation.
“The opposition parties should wait till 2023 for the general elections instead of adopting a policy of confrontation and street protests”, he said while talking to Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Sardar Dost Mohammad Mazari who called on him at Governor House Lahore. Political and governmental matters came under discussion during the meeting.
Ch Sarwar said that people had given a five years’ mandate to the PTI government and it was the constitutional and democratic right of the government to complete the constitutional term. The government, he said, was taking practical steps to save people from inflation and other problems.
“Despite all claims of political opponents, the government of PTI has completed a period of more than three years and the remaining years will also pass. Opposition parties have already protested against the government, but the government is not afraid of them because there is no doubt that the opposition parties themselves are divided and they have no vision”, he observed.
Hopes by December every person in Punjab will get facility of Insaf Health Card
Ch Sarwar said that the government was working on electoral reforms to make the next general elections transparent. “We have been repeatedly asking the opposition parties to support the government on the issue of electoral reforms, but the opposition parties are not only obstructing electoral reforms, but they are also stopping Overseas Pakistanis from their right to vote which can never be in the interest of the nation and democracy”, he maintained.
The governor said that the provision of health, education and other basic facilities was the top priority of the government. He hoped that by December 2021 every person in Punjab will get facility of Insaf Health Card. He added that Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority’s 1,500 filtration plants project was underway to provide clean drinking water to the people.
Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Sardar Dost Mohammad Mazari said that the opposition could not overthrow the government earlier nor will it succeed now. “The coalition parties and the people were standing with the government.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will complete his constitutional term and will resolve all problems”, he said.
