ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi yesterday says that the late nuclear scientist, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, was a true patriot.
In a message on his death, FM Qureshi said Dr Khan served the country with sincerity. “Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s services will be remembered for long. He was a patriot who served the nation well,” FM Qureshi said.
The atomic scientist, who spent the last years of his life under heavy guard, died in the capital, Islamabad, where he had recently been hospitalised with Covid-19.
Khan was hailed as a national hero for transforming Pakistan into the world’s first Islamic nuclear weapons’ power. However, he was declared by the west to be a dangerous renegade for sharing technology with rogue nuclear states.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, FM Qureshi said Pakistan was committed to continue “our diplomatic, moral and political support of Kashmiri people in their struggle of freedom.”
Qureshi said Pakistan was trying to highlight the atrocities of Indian occupied forces at international forums.
“We have presented dossier comprising on solid evidences of atrocities and criminal acts of Indian forces. Kashmir is now an international issue due to our diplomatic efforts,” he added.
Qureshi said that peace in Afghanistan is “our top most priority as peace in Afghanistan links with peace of the region.”
He said that the world would have to contribute in overcoming the human crisis in Afghanistan.
Qureshi said Pakistan’s economy was on the right path now with the positive indicators.
He said that “our nation has emerged as strengthened nation after getting control on terrorism and corona pandemic.”
He said that welfare of overseas Pakistan was the top most priority of the incumbent government.
