ISLAMABAD:
The government on Thursday jacked up prices of petroleum products for the second time in a month by over Rs8 per litre in line with fluctuation in global oil prices and the local currency.
According to a statement issued by the Finance Division, the per-litre price of petrol goes up by Rs4, high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2, kerosene oil by Rs7.05 and light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs8.82.
The new prices will be effective from Friday (today) till October 15, the notification added.
After the fresh hike, the petrol price has gone up from Rs123.30 per litre to Rs127.30. Similarly, the price of HSD has surged to Rs122.04 from Rs120.04 per litre. Kerosene oil has increased to Rs99.31 from Rs92.26 per litre, while LDO will now be available at Rs99.51 per litre against the current Rs90.69 per litre.

“…The Ogra [Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority] has worked out the higher petroleum price but Prime Minister [Imran Khan] decided against the recommendation and passed on the minimum increase to the consumers,” read the official statement.
It added that fuel prices in Pakistan are the cheapest in the region.
The latest increase in the price will have an impact on the life of people, particularly those living in remote areas like northern parts of Pakistan, where kerosene is used for cooking purposes because of the non-availability of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The high-speed diesel is mainly used in the transport and agriculture sectors. The increase in its price will also have a direct inflationary impact. The LDO is used in industry.
