ISLAMABAD – Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s official visit to Pakistan scheduled for 19th-20th September, has been postponed till the formation of a new government in Iraq after general elections which are taking place next month. Official sources told The Nation agenda of talks and other official business of the Iraqi prime minister with Pakistani leaders was almost finalised, but the Iraqi foreign ministry conveyed the decision of their PM office to postpone the visit till holding of the new elections scheduled for 10th October 2021. “If Mustafa Al-Kadhimi becomes Iraqi PM again then he would be visiting Pakistan as first priority,” a diplomatic source told the Nation. The sources said fresh dates would be finalised after the announcement of the new government in Baghdad next month. The sources maintained that draft MOUs and agreements to be signed by two countries would remain the same and would be taken up once the new dates of the visit are announced by Baghdad.
