ISLAMABAD – The joint opposition will soon demand the government to summon Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting to discuss inter-provincial matters including matters related to upcoming population census.
The opposition would take up the matter in the upcoming National Assembly session, likely to be summoned by the mid of October. The opposition wants the government to regularly summon the meeting of CCI as per the rules and regulation.
According to the sources, representative of smaller provinces would raise the matter in the upcoming National Assembly to force the government to call a meeting of CCI. The lawmakers from PPP want the government to ensure calling the CCI to discuss water distribution and matters related to population census in length.
The members of small provinces had already expressed reservations for not calling the meeting within three months, which is a constitutional requirement.
