Lakki marwat – The administration has banned manufacturing and selling of kites, kite-flying string and metallic wire and nylon cord within the limits of Bannu district, said an official on Sunday.
The official said that Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zubair Niazi had issued an order to that effect using his powers conferred upon him under Section 144 CrPC.
He said that kite-flying was in vogue in the district and that the practice was proving dangerous for precious human lives.
“The metallic and nylon string used in kite-flying posed a serious life threat to motorcyclists as they slit their throats while travelling on roads. Minors and teenagers running after drifting kites are also hit and killed by motorists and they also cause road accidents” he said. The official said that owners of houses, shops, hospitals and other buildings have been directed to not allow kite-flying activity on their rooftops. “The ban will remain enforced for one month up to October 17,” he maintained and added that violators will face stern legal action.
