ISLAMABAD – PTI’s MNA Muhammad Akram Cheema yesterday submitted privilege motion in the National Assembly Secretariat requesting that question of privilege be admitted and referred to the standing committee on rules and procedure and privilege for examination, investigation and report. Akram Cheema with his driver was the other day (Wednesday) briefly detained in the Secretariat Police Station. “The incident is insult of the whole House and of Speaker as well as violation of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly and all parliamentary norms and privileges of the members granted to them,” said PTI’s MNA Muhammad Akram Cheema, in a privilege motion. “It is not a breach of my privilege but of the whole House and the Speaker who is custodian of the House” he said.
Narrating the incident in the privilege motion, he said, “At the iron gate of the Parliament House It (vehicle) was stopped by certain people posed themselves to be the staff of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, Judge Supreme Court,” he said, claiming that he came to know that gentleman who initially stopped his vehicle and allegedly used abusive language was judge of the Supreme Court.
He said, “One of the person took out key of my vehicle and told police officials present there to take me and the driver and vehicle to the police station. I was in the illegal custody of the said police station for about more than two hours”.
A treasury benches MNA, quoting rule-97 of the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the National Assembly, 2007, requested to move the matter to the standing committee on rules.
Cheema further said that he was stopped by the Islamabad Police and taken into custody by them from within the precincts of the National Assembly without permission of Speaker National Assembly in violation of Rule-106 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
