QUETTA:
At least one person was killed while nine others including women and children sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Quetta’s Qandhari Bazar on Saturday, police and rescue sources said.
They said that the explosives were planted on a motorcycle and added that the blast also damaged four vehicles and nearby shops.
A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesperson said that further investigation is underway and evidence is being collected from the crime scene.
“Terrorists involved in this coward[ly] act of terrorism against innocent women and children will be brought to justice very soon,” he added.
The spokesperson said that terrorist organisations disturbing the peace of Balochistan will be dismantled, adding that the supporters and facilitators of terrorist organisations will be prosecuted in courts of law.
A spokesperson for Civil Hospital Quetta said that six injured were brought to the hospital including a woman, adding that one of them succumbed to his wounds.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, while condemning the incident, directed the authorities to provide the best medical facilities to the injured. “Terrorist elements are enemies of peace and they will never be forgiven,” he added.
Bizenjo said that the government was responsible for the protection of life and property of the people and it will go to extreme lengths in order to ensure peace.
He directed the IG Police to boost up security in the province to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. He also expressed sympathy with the families of the victims.
