Lahore – A delegation of the office-bearers of Punjab Bar Council (PBC) yesterday called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi and Federal Minister for Housing Tariq Bashir Cheema at their residence.
PBC Executive Committee Chairman Haji Afzal Dharala, PBC Vice Chairman Farhan Shehzad and Advocate Mian Abdul Rahman were part of the delegation.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that the lawyers’ community was struggling for provision of justice and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) had always supported them. “Lawyers are an important segment of our society,” he said, adding that it was for the first time that the bar associations at Tehsil level were given importance during his last tenure as Punjab chief minister. He said that funds were also allocated for the welfare and well-being of the lawyers. “Practical steps are being taken for provision of medical facilities including free treatment of heart surgery. Projects like housing society have also been started for the lawyers’ community,” he further said.
Haji Afzal Dharala and Farhan Shehzad said that the first building of the PBC was also constructed during the tenure of Ch Parvez Elahi. They said that the bar associations had produced prominent lawyers. “The lawyers’ community will always hold you in high esteem for launching projects of their welfare,” they said.
