ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has strengthened with every passing day. Addressing the launching ceremony of Winter Relief Project by Saudi Arabia in Islamabad on Thursday, he said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have close political, strategic and economic ties. He said Saudi Arabia has always supported Pakistan in the hour of need. He said Saudi Arabia has been on the forefront in providing humanitarian assistance to Pakistan in natural calamities. The minister said the Winter Relief Project under Shah Salman Relief Fund would provide assistance to the poor people in the far flung areas of Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Saudi Ambassador said Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have close brotherly ties.
He said Saudi Arabia always helped Pakistan in difficult time and it donated 10 million US dollars in 2005 for the earthquake’s affectees. He said Saudi Arabia had donated 170 million USD in 2008-09 for flood affectees of Pakistan and also provided $1.5 billion economic relief in 2014. He also said Saudi Arabia is the largest donor country for Pakistan since 1960. Fawad said Saudi Arabia has provided US dollars 38 million for disaster relief, 55 million US dollars for housing projects, five million US dollars for schools and 13 million US dollars for mosques.
