ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the ISI played strategically important role in countering threats to the national security of Pakistan from internal and external hostile elements under the leadership of its outgoing chief Lt Gen Faiz Hamid.
Official sources told The Nation that outgoing Director General ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hamid paid a farewell call on the prime minister at the PM Office here yesterday. During the meeting, the prime minister lauded the services of the outgoing DG for national security, particularly his role and intelligence analysis in the wake of developments in Afghanistan in August this year and beyond.
During the meeting, Lt Gen Faiz Hamid briefed the prime minister about the latest issues related to the national security and expressed optimism that ISI as an institution would continue to play its role in strengthening the national security of Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan wished Lt Gen Faiz Hamid well for his next posting as Corps Commander Peshawar.
Later, Lt Gen Faiz Hamid also paid farewell call on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office. Lt Gen Faiz Hamid would relinquish his charge as DG ISI today while Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum will take charge of this position tomorrow.
