ISLAMABAD/KARACHI – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday took strong notice of the horrific killing of Nazim Sajawal Jakhio in Sindh’s Thatha district and directed the authorities concerned to ensure that justice is done in the case and the culprits are brought to justice.
Official sources told The Nation that Prime Minister Imran Khan in his telephonic conversation with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail directed him to keep him updated about the progress in the case.
The body of Nazim Sajawal Jakhio who was allegedly tortured to death was found at a farmhouse belonging to a PPP lawmaker in Karachi’s Malir on Wednesday.
Police and the victim’s relatives say Jakhio was threatened by influential people for making their video while they were illegally hunting. He was called at the farmhouse for patch up but was tortured to death at the farm house.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Saturday rejected an eight-member investigation team formed by East Zone DIG to probe into the murder of Nazim Jakhio—who was allegedly killed on the behest of Pakistan Peoples Party’s sitting MPA—and said that he would ask the Prime Minister to form Joint Investigation Team (JIT) at the federal level.

Talking to media after visiting Nazim’s residence to express condolences here, the Governor who flanked with other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders said that he came to meet the bereaved family on directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan. “I assure the family of Nazim Jakhio that the elements involved in the murder will be brought to book,” he said.
Ismail said that the federal government would provide all possible assistance to the heirs of Nazim Jakhio and would take the case to a logical conclusion. The Governor said that he would also talk to the Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the provincial Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar.
He said that Nazim Jakhio was brutally killed and his family was still receiving threats. “The names of the real killers are not been incorporated in the case yet. We will not let the law of the jungle to prevail here,” he added.
Ismail said that under the incumbent PTI-led federal government, the powerful elements cannot oppress the weaker ones. He said that they had no confidence in the investigation team formed at the provincial level, adding that he would approach the Prime Minister for the constitution of a JIT at the federal level.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan sent me here and he is continuously following the progress of the case,” said the Governor.
Replying to a question, Ismail said that it was unfortunate that many people nominated in criminal cases were members of the Sindh Assembly, asking the Chief Minister to ensure impartial trial of such MPAs.
The case came to limelight when a tortured body of Nazim Jakhio, a 27-year old man was recovered from a Farm House at Jam Goth, reportedly owned by PPP MPA Jam Awais Bijar Khan Jakhio.
The slain man had filmed the MPA’s foreign guests while hunting houbara bustard and uploaded the video on social media. The FIR was registered at Memon Goth police station on complaint of the victim’s brother Afzal Jakhio who maintained that his brother was beaten to death by the PPP MPA and his accomplices just for filming and posting the video of hunting.
The victim’s family and relatives had to stage a 15-hour-long protest as they blocked both sides of the National Highway, demanding justice. They ended the protest after assurance of provincial ministers Saeed Ghani and Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh. Later, Jam Awais Bijar Khan Jokhio surrendered before the police and he was currently on a three-day physical remand.
