LAHORE – Supreme leader of the PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif Tuesday repeated the old mantra of lack of respect for the Parliament and the Constitution in Pakistan saying that the country had lost respect in the comity of nations.
“A three-time prime minister is sent packing on mere allegation of keeping an Aqama, or, for stealing a buffalo. An elected prime minister is hanged. What is our standing in today’s world”, he said while addressing a party meeting through video link from London. The meeting held in connection with the reorganization of the party’s Multan chapter was attended among others by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Rana Sana Ullah, Awais Leghari and MNAs and MPAs belonging to the Multan division. Shehbaz Sharif could not attend the meeting as he was scheduled to attend the National Assembly session. Nawaz Sharif raised several questions in his address to the party workers and leaders. “Can anybody ask them why the prices of sugar, flour and medicines have gone skyrocketing? Can people be made to answer about the accounts of their fathers and grandfathers? Why would the world respect our country after the follies committed by the present rulers?” He maintained that people today were cursing the present rulers.
“Had the last elections been held transparently, the people would not have suffered at the hands of these rulers”, he averred. He said the PML-N will struggle for transparent elections in league with the PDM.
Talking about the development work done during his tenure, the PML-N leader said that he laid a network of motorways in the country but did not borrow a penny from the IMF. “We delivered, but cases were instituted against us. In my tenure, whenever a foreign gift was received, it was registered and deposited [in the Toshakhana]. Now, when they are asked about the foreign gifts they have received, they term it a conspiracy against the country’s integrity. But strangely, cases are instituted against us on this count”, he moaned.
The PML-N’s vice-president Maryam Nawaz and Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz also addressed the meeting.
