Lahore – Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch Saturday said that during the last 24 hours, 546 confirmed cases of dengue had been reported out of which 361 were detected in Lahore.
In a statement, he said that 47 cases were reported in Rawalpindi, 18 in Sheikhupura, 16 in Gujranwala, 15 in Faisalabad, 11 in Kasur, eight in Khushab, seven in Muzaffargarh, six in Sargodha and Sialkot each. Similarly, five dengue cases were reported in Bhakkar and four in Attock.
“As many as 9,491 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in Punjab so far while 6,294 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in Lahore,” he added.
“Four deaths have been reported in Punjab during the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 29. Three of the deceased patients are from Lahore while one is from Faisalabad.
A total of 2,286 patients have been admitted to hospitals across Punjab, out of which 1,294 patients were admitted to Lahore hospitals, while 992 patients were admitted to hospitals of other cities,” he stated.
About availability of beds for dengue patients in hospitals of Punjab, the secretary said that 4,846 beds were currently allocated for dengue in hospitals across Punjab. “A total of 2,286 patients are under treatment on beds allocated for dengue in Punjab while 1,294 beds are currently being occupied by dengue patients in Lahore,” he added.
During the last 24 hours, at least 446,880 indoor locations and 105,631 outdoor locations were checked across the Punjab while larvae were destroyed at 2,081 locations. In Lahore, 65,288 indoor places and 10,095 outdoor points were checked for dengue larvae and 1,371 positive containers were destroyed.
On the other hand, an anti-dengue drive launched by the district administration is underway in the provincial capital under which surveillance is being carried out at various points in the city.
Raiwind Assistant Commissioner (AC) Adnan Rasheed Saturday visited Wapda Town where he inspected anti-dengue arrangements and issued warning to various house owners over presence of dengue larvae.
Shalimar Assistant Commissioner Tehniyat Bukhari visited Union Council (UC) 52 to inspect anti-dengue arrangements at the under-construction plazas and commercial buildings. “All the departments are working in a coordinated manner to make the anti-dengue campaign a success,” she said and directed the dengue teams deputed in the area to gear up pace of anti-dengue spray process.
City Assistant Commissioner Sardar Fizan Ahmed inspected anti-dengue arrangements at various auto workshops in UC-82 and ordered the officials concerned to speed up anti-dengue spraying process.
