ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Power and Petroleum Tabish Gauhar has resigned from his post. Prime Minister Imran Khan has accepted the resignation. While announcing the end of his one-year association with the PTI government, Tabish Gauhar said via a tweet “After a year of public service, I’ve decided to call it a day to return to my family. It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to serve the country, to the best of my abilities, in an honorary capacity. I shall remain indebted to the PM for giving me this opportunity.” A source close to the development said that more than a month before his departure the Special Assistant to Prime Minister had limited his influence to advisory role on policy level decisions and was avoiding meetings pertaining to operational level. His role was just ceremonial as he had no say or very limited control in the affairs of the ministry, the source added. According the insiders, there were several reasons behind the unplanned departure of the SAPM. Tabish was unhappy with the interference of the cabinet ministers in the affairs of Petroleum Division. On the issue of dry-docking of LNG FSRU Tabish had developed differences with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, which continued till his resignation. In a CCOE meeting, SAPM Gauhar had protested over the intervention of Maritime Minister in the affairs of the energy ministry.
