Lakki marwat – The residents of Kot Kashmir and Baistkhel union councils have announced to end boycott of anti-polio drive and allowed polio workers to immunise children against the crippling disease.
The residents had reportedly told the vaccinators to first resolve the issue of electricity load-shedding and low voltage problem and then carry out vaccination.
The matter was brought into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Hussain who sent Additional Assistant Commissioner Aminullah Khan to the rural areas to negotiate with the elders.
The elders told the administration officials that their localities were hit hard by excessive power outages and low voltage problems. They said that long power suspension had also deepened the scarcity of drinking water in both union councils as tube wells could not run. Aminullah assured them that the district administration would take up the issues with relevant authorities of PESCO to ensure their resolution without any delay. He said that polio is a dangerous disease and besides causing lifelong paralysis it could prove fatal for the children under the age of five.
He asked the people, especially parents not to link vaccination of their children with demands and cooperate with polio teams.
After successful talks the polio teams resumed work in the area and administered children with oral polio vaccine in the presence of Additional Assistant Commissioner Aminullah Khan.
