JENNINGS, Mo. (AP) — A man who was randomly firing a shotgun in a suburban St. Louis neighborhood — injuring one neighbor — was fatally shot by an officer over the weekend, police said.
The shootings happened Sunday morning, when St. Louis County police were called to a home in Jennings, police said in a news release. Arriving officers found a man who was firing a shotgun from the house, hitting at least three neighboring homes.
At some point, police said, a 68-year-old man next door to the home was hit with a shotgun blast that came through his living room window, leaving more than 35 pellet wounds in the man’s back, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Police surrounded the home, and before negotiators could arrive, police said, the suspect walked out the side door with a sawed-off shotgun. A St. Louis County Police officer shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in the release.
Police did not immediately release the name of the man. The officer who shot the man also has not been named, but police said he is 30 years old and has six years of experience.
