6.30pm: One of the big talking points of the day is the whole imbroglio with Dean Elgar’s on-field lbw call reversed on DRS, with the ball tracking showing the ball from Ashwin bouncing over the stumps. The Indian team were clearly unhappy with that decision. Here’s what they said on the stump mic. Check that out, and we’ll be back with you tomorrow. Make sure you join us bright and early.
5.58pm: And that will also be stumps. This would have been the last over before stumps, so Bumrah has once again struck at an opportune moment for India. South Africa end on 101 for 2 – 8 wickets in hand and 111 runs to get. If the weather holds, the series will be decided tomorrow. Keegan Petersen still standing tall and elegant, stroking the ball with panache. Dean Elgar has fallen, how crucial will that be? It’s been an action packed day of Test cricket. At the start, Pujara and Rahane fell even before people might have settled in to watch. Then Pant and Kohli stiched together a crucial stand. Pant being adventurous but with some restraint. Kohli being monk-like in patience. When Kohli fell, India needed the lower order to stick around with Pant, but Ashwin and Shardul were out to loose shots. Then Pant farmed the strike on the way to a rollicking, fantastic century. South Africa’s batters began solidly enough, though India will feel that the period just after the overturned DRS dismissal of Elgar was one in which they lost control a bit and runs were burgled. But Bumrah came back to get the key wicket of Elgar, leaving everything nicely set up for a grandstand finish tomorrow.
Prenolin Naidoo: “What I do not get is Kohli says it is biased but DRS is independent and the umpire actually gave it out so it’s not like the umpires were against him” — I think the Indian players were aggrieved and felt that the DRS projection was not accurately done.
Gentleman’s Gam: “Big send off there from Virat it seems. Dean will wear that as a mark of honour at the value of his wicket, but it sets tomorrow up as evens for the win. Maybe SA by a nose. Will they get the heavy roller in the morning? Could be crucial in easing the first hour. “
Amit: “Still it’s South Africa game to lose, If India does a miracle in bowling.”
