6.31pm Thirteen wickets on the first day, and India have found ways to stay abreast with England after long passages of pressure from the hosts. The batting was put under pressure again after England put India in and bowled relentlessly, but that Shardul Thakur counterattack knocked the wind out of their sails. Such a gamechanger was that knock that England have not yet scored as many as Thakur did and have lost three wickets, including, that of Root. Has to be said that for long period with the ball, India looked a little ordinary, especially once Bumrah’s first spell was done, but then out of nowhere came a beauty from Umesh to castle Root. The match is pretty even right now. See you tomorrow.
