Boston firefighters responded Friday to a ruptured steam pipe inside a steam plant.Crews were called at 9:30 a.m. to Vicinity Energy’s steam generation plant, a 90-year-old nine-story building at 165 Kneeland Ave.“Steam was released within the plant only. The rupture poses no public safety risk,” Vicinity said in a statement. The ruptured six-inch pipe was located in the basement and under 200 PSI of pressure. A second alarm was ordered, and crews were told to get out of the building.”An old building like this, big steam pipes in there, you never know what you’re going to get. I ordered everyone out of the building for my members’ safety after the victims were removed from the basement,” Burke said. The cause of the incident is under investigation and Vicinity said the plan remained offline as of Friday evening. They said customers were not impacted.
