A Pewaukee man was arrested Tuesday and is now charged with multiple counts of sexual assault of a child, child abuse and child sexual exploitations. The criminal complaint says the investigation started earlier this year when a 12-year-old Racine girl and her family contacted police. The victim told police James Wicht, 51, would come to her house and perform exams on her.”It appeared that James was putting a professional front to his sexual assaults,” said Chad Melby of the Racine Police Department. “He was convincing people that these were exams that were needed for professional reasons.” The girl’s parents told police Wicht was a family friend and he asked to perform the exams as a way to keep some type of insurance certifications or get some type of insurance certifications. The exams turned invasive when she turned 12, according to the criminal complaint. The victim told police Wicht would have her take her clothes off and put on an examination-type gown.He would also have her remove her underwear. During an exam, believed to be in April 2021, the victim told police Wicht used a clamp thing, believed to be a speculum, and that “it hurt real bad.” The victim said her dad was present when this happened and was using Wicht’s cellphone, she believed an iPhone 12, to record the exam, according to the complaint. The father admitted to recording this exam at the request of Wicht, who said he wanted it to show doctors for his testing. The parents became concerned after the April exam. When a search warrant was executed at Wicht’s home Tuesday, among the items recovered was a cellphone. When examined, police said it contained a video of the “clamp” exam described by the victim. Wicht is in the Racine County Jail on a $1 million bond.Investigators believe Wicht assaulted multiple children dating back many years. The Racine Police Department and Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department are looking to identify and speak to possible victims. “We just want to put that out there so if people may have been associated with James, but believe that his activities, these physical exams, were legitimate that we want them to contact the police so we can look into it further,” Melby said.If you or someone you know has had a similar contact with Wicht, please contact Racine Police Investigator Melissa Diener at 262-635-7764, Waukesha County Detective Aaron Hoppe at 262-896-8143, or Waukesha County Detective Mark Conrad at 262-691-6038.WISN 12 continues to gather more information on this developing story.
