Harrisburg City Fire says two people were rescued from the Susquehanna River early Sunday. Emergency crews were dispatched to an area just below the Dock Street Dam around 3:30 a.m.According to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo, city workers spotted a man, a woman, and a 2-year-old child on top of a car in the river.The District Attorney says the man became combative, yelling, “Shoot me, shoot me.”Police efforts to calm the man down failed, according to the District Attorney.The District Attorney says the man then turned a hunting knife on the woman and that’s when police fired four shots at the man.According to the District Attorney, the man fell into the river. He is unaccounted for.Firefighters used a tower truck to rescue the woman and child from the car in the river.”We’re working below the Dock Street Dam, which has additional current just because of the way the water comes off of the dam face. And add the ice into it, the cold weather, and it was just absolute horrid working conditions,” Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline said.The District Attorney says the woman had injuries caused by her husband. Both the woman and child were taken to the hospital.
