Vijay Deverakonda’s much hyped Telugu film, Liger released on Thursday and took a very good start with a South India Gross collection of approximately Rs. 17 crores (+2 crore from paid previews in Hindi). However, despite the collections, the talk was outright negative among the audience and critics. The film has seen one of the biggest crashes of all time in the South Indian market. According to our tracking, Liger has collected in the range of Rs. 4.10 to 4.40 crores on its second day to take the total collection to Rs. 21 crore plus.

The two-day share in the Telugu markets is around Rs 11 crore, and the film is headed to record an opening weekend share of Rs 15 to 16 crore. For those unaware, the sport-based action entertainer has been sold to the distributors for a sum of Rs. 55 crores, and hence, a bare minimum loss of Rs. 35 crores is on cards for this Vijay Deverakonda film in Telugu states. If we take the worldwide prospects into account, the film stands to lose over Rs. 50 crores for the distributors.

It would be the third consecutive disaster for the actor in Telugu market after Dear Comrade and World Famous Lover. His next is Khushi with Samantha, which is expected to break the streak. The movie is a wash out in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, while it’s expected to be out of most cinema halls in Telugu states by Monday.

On Friday morning, there was a record number of show cancellations for Liger. It’s a 77 percent drop in collections for the film in South Indian states vis-à-vis the opening day.
