Box Office: It’s Avatar: The Way of Water wave all the way, Cirkus doesn’t work, Drishyam 2 ends 2022 on a high :Bollywood Box Office – Bollywood Hungama

End of 2022 has seen very unique results at the box office. Yet again, it’s a Hollywood film which has come trumps, what with Avatar: The Way of Water emerging as a blockbuster. New Bollywood release Cirkus has flopped in its opening weekend itself while holdover release Drishyam 2 is closing the year by being the third biggest grosser for an original Hindi film in 2022.

Let’s talk about the James Cameron directed sci-fi fantasy action drama first. The film has an excellent second weekend as over Rs. 55 crores more came in. Now that’s the kind of number that most Bollywood biggies have failed to score in their lifetime in 2022 and here comes a Bollywood film which is doing as much in the second weekend. The film is making the most of the holiday season and currently stands at a huge Rs. 252.05 crores. In no time it will cross the Rs. 300 crores mark and then add a lot more to its overall haul before calling it a day. Blockbuster.

Meanwhile, Cirkus has been unfortunately side-lined and that reflects in a poor weekend of Rs. 20.85 crores that it has fetched so far. Agreed that the kind of entertainment that the film brought with it was not to everyone’s taste but it definitely didn’t deserve the kind of absolute ignorance that it has got. The film’s promo made at least me excited about the film and it’s apparent that audiences didn’t share the same sentiment. However, calling it – and those associated with the film (mainly Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh) – names wasn’t something that one could see coming. Yes, the film is a flop though it would be interesting to see how the same set of audiences react when it arrives on OTT and satellite.

Meanwhile, Drishyam 2 is all set for a fantastic OTT premiere in just some more time for now. It is closing the year on a high and with Rs. 228.13 crores already in, it could well have gone past the Rs. 230 crores mark when the New Year begins. The Ajay Devgn starrer has given a lot to Bollywood to cheer about and with Pathaan as the next biggie arriving in four weeks from now, one just hopes for a revival coming in for Bollywood.
