It has been over two and a half years since a Hindi film took an opening of over Rs. 50 crores at the box office. It was back in October 2019 when this happened with Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War, which had a massive opening day when it gathered Rs. 53.35 crores on its release that took place on the national holiday of Gandhi Jayanti. Post that, leave aside Rs. 50 crores, even a Rs. 30 crores opening has not taken place. The best that we have seen since then is Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, which took a start of Rs. 26.29 crores on Diwali 2021.
Now finally the wait is going to be over as KGF – Chapter 2 (Hindi) is set to take a massive opening on its Thursday release tomorrow. The game has got bigger as it’s not a Rs. 30 crores start but a Rs. 40 crores opening that is expected at the box office. The film has seen some of the best hype for a film ever since its announcement and the best part is that it has not been induced but instead organic. While the makers have done well to mount the film on a massive scale and done the kind of pre-release marketing and promotion that has made the film hot, the audience’s love for Yash has been such as well that they have been waiting to catch this one on the big screen.
At the time of the promo release, it was apparent that the film would take a start of Rs. 30-35 crores at least. However, the advance booking reports suggest that 40 crores is a given and with some push, even a Rs. 45-50 crores start is a possibility. This Prashanth Neel-directed film is a blockbuster in the making.
