A start has been managed by Liger (Hindi). In 2023, the biggest challenge faced by the film industry is not about big bucks missing at the box office; it’s mainly about films not even opening at all. Most films are opening around 25% of what they would have had they released during the pre-pandemic. Merit is one thing; a bad film can crash on the second day itself. If not then, then on Sunday or at maximum on Monday. However, if there are stars involved in there or if the hype created has been worth it, then at least a start is warranted. Now even that had gone for a toss in 2023.

Liger Box Office: Vijay Devarakonda and Ananya Pandey starrer gets an opening as per predictions on Friday, collects Rs. 4.50 cr

Hence, an opening of Rs. 4.50 crores that the Karan Johar production has managed is still good enough since it’s at least close to how things would have been back in time. Considering the hype that was surrounding the launch of Vijay Devarakonda and with Ananya Pandey as the leading lady, the film would have started at around Rs. 7-8 crores before 2020, or perhaps even made at a dash towards the Rs. 10 crores mark. Now the kind of opening which has come in is still around 50% of that, and that’s not bad considering the times that we are in. Moreover, Thursday paid previews were good too with Rs. 1.25 crores coming in when the film was released at just one show in the late night at select multiplexes.

Of course, there is a lot of distance that the film needs to travel from here, given the costs involved. What needs to be seen is the kind of growth that comes today and tomorrow, as that would decide the eventual run of the film. It has two open weeks ahead of it so it can collect well if the content is picked well by the audiences.
