Turkey to send humanitarian aid to flood affectees in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Turkey is preparing to extend relief to flood affectees and will send a Turkish aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to Pakistan.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Saturday said: “We are deeply saddened that the severe flood disasters, which are ongoing and intensified in the last few days in Pakistan, claimed the lives of many Pakistani brothers and sisters, and caused extensive damage.”
“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, convey our condolences to the friendly and brotherly government and people of Pakistan, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” added the statement.
It further said that Turkey has started preparations to extend the necessary relief to the Pakistanis and planned to send a Turkish aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to Pakistan.

Armed men divert flood water towards Tando Adam

TANDO ADAM: Armed men diverted the flood water towards the city by placing barricades at two places in order to save their crops.
According to the administration, the flood waves moving towards the city from Tando Adam Bypass.
Special assistant of Sindh Chief Minister said the water has already entered Jaman Shah area.
If timely measures are not taken then the city will sink completely, he said, adding that the chief minister has been informed about the situation.

Death toll surpasses 1,000, NDMA data shows

Death toll from the floods triggered by the rains have crossed 1,000, latest figures issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) showed Saturday night.
NDMA’s data showed that 1,033 people have died while 1,527 have been injured since June 14 from the rains and floods.
The people who lost their lives include 456 men, 207 women and 348 children.
About 119 people died and 71 were injured in the country due to rain and floods within 24 hours.

Chairman NHA cancels staff leaves

National Highway Authority (NHA) spokesperson said that the chairman has cancelled the leaves of the staff, ordering the officers concerned to restore all land connections across the country as soon as possible.
The authority has issued orders to ensure the flow of traffic on its road networks.
A flood emergency centre has been set up at NHA headquarters.
The spokesperson said these numbers can be contacted in case of emergency.

CM directs authorities to arrest those deducting service charges from BISP assistance amount

UMERKPOT: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the police to arrest the agents who are deducting Rs3,000 under the garb of service charges from the financial assistance of Rs25,000 being given to the flood-affected people under the Benazir Income Support Programme.
“This is unacceptable and uncalled for. I’ll not tolerate depriving deserving people living in distress,” he said while pressing over a meeting at the DC office to review the damages caused by heavy rains and the relief measures taken by the government.
At the outset of the meeting, the chief minister was told that they were thankful to the government that it has started giving Rs25,000 financial assistance to the flood-affected people.
Recipients complained that the BISP officials or agents involved in cash transfers were deducting Rs3,000 as service charges. At this, the CM expressed displeasure and directed to arrest those making deductions from the cash transfers.
“This is quite surprising that our people do not spare even the homeless and displaced from deduction,” he said, directing DIG Mirpurkhas to arrest them and report him.

Ahsan Iqbal briefed about relief items

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal received a briefing about the relief items provided to the flood affectees in an emergency meeting.
During the meeting, the minister directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to restore affected roads urgently.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) data, 34,384 tents, 29,400 food packets, and 18,860 first aid kits have been provided.
About 1,061 generators, 350 life-saving jackets, 1,000 sleeping bags, 9,944 kitchen sets, and 17,650 blankets have been provided to affected areas.
The chairman of the flood relief committee said that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will set up special teams to restore defunct towers.

Emergency imposed in 13 districts of KP: PDMA

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Saturday revealed that an emergency has been imposed in 13 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Moreover, relief camps have been set up in schools and colleges while hospitals are also on high alert.
The PDMA report highlighted that so far people from 25 villages have been evacuated. In total, 180,000 people have migrated to safe areas.
In Swat, due to flash floods 24 bridges and 50 hotels have been damaged. The authority highlighted that the floods in Nowshera are less in intensity compared to those seen in 2010.
